A DevOps engineer is who you hire when the software already exists and the problem is everything around it: where it runs, who can change it, what happens when it stops, and whether last night’s backup would actually restore. The work is billed at 10 KWD per hour, starts with a free consultation hour, and often takes fewer hours than owners expect.

The signs you need this hire

You do not need a DevOps engineer because a slide deck said so. You need one when you recognise most of these:

  • Your site went down and you found out from a customer, not from an alert.
  • Changes go live by someone editing files on the live server, because there is nowhere else to try them.
  • One person holds the hosting password, and that person no longer works with you.
  • You pay for cloud services nobody can explain, and the invoice grows every month.
  • Backups are switched on but nobody has ever restored one.
  • Every release is scheduled for Thursday night because you expect it to break.

If instead you are unsure what to build at all, that is a different conversation, and the technical consultation hour is the right place for it.

What a DevOps engineer does for a Kuwait business

The first job is ownership. Domain, DNS, hosting, certificates, gateway accounts and store accounts move into your company’s name and a company email, and get written down in one document. Businesses lose whole websites over this, and it usually costs only a few hours to fix.

Then comes a staging copy, so changes can be tried somewhere that is not your live shop during working hours. Releases get automated, with a tested way back to the previous version, which is what turns a scary deployment into a boring one.

After that, backups and monitoring. A backup that has never been restored is a hope, so the restore gets tested once in front of you. Monitoring checks the site from outside Kuwait as a customer would see it, and alerts a named person rather than a shared inbox. The same engineer tunes what is slow: image sizes, database queries, and the caching that decides whether a Kuwaiti visitor on mobile data waits one second or six.

What it costs

Hours times 10 KWD, with no monthly platform fee from us. A typical takeover of a neglected setup:

Work Hours Cost
Audit of servers, domains, accounts and backups 4 40 KWD
Move to a managed host with a staging copy 8 80 KWD
Automatic releases and a tested rollback 5 50 KWD
Backups, a live restore test, monitoring and alerts 5 50 KWD
Runbook and a handover session with your team 3 30 KWD
Total 25 250 KWD

Most businesses then keep a small block of hours each month for updates and alerts. Three hours is 30 KWD. Longer partnerships qualify for 15%, 30% or 50% off the hourly rate on the pricing page, and hosting fees are paid by you directly to the provider so there is no markup hiding in the middle.

How to start

Book the free hour with an engineer and bring whatever you have: an invoice from the hosting company, the name of whoever built the site, and the last incident that annoyed you. You get back a written list of what is missing, in priority order, with an hours estimate against each line. Many owners act on the first two lines and stop there, which is a fine outcome. If the review shows the application itself is the problem rather than the hosting, we will tell you, and the fix belongs with web development or ecommerce development instead.

What we deliver

  • A written inventory of every server, domain and account, in your name
  • A staging copy of the live site to test changes on
  • Automatic releases with a way back to the previous version
  • Backups with a restore that has actually been tested
  • Uptime and error alerts that reach a named person
  • Domain, DNS and certificate renewals documented, not remembered
  • A runbook your own team can follow without calling us

Frequently asked questions

Our website is hosted by the person who built it and we have no access. What now?

This is the most common call we get. The first hours go into recovering ownership: the domain at the registrar, the hosting account, the DNS, the email records and the store or gateway accounts, all moved into your company name and a company email address rather than an individual's. Until that is done, any other work sits on somebody else's permission.

Where should a Kuwait business host its site?

Closer regions such as Bahrain and the UAE give visibly faster page loads for Kuwaiti visitors than a server in Europe or the United States. If a contract or a regulator requires your data to stay inside Kuwait, that requirement decides it instead, and we ask to see it in writing before choosing anything. For a small bilingual site, a managed host in the region is usually enough and cheaper to run than a cloud account nobody watches.

Do we need Docker and Kubernetes?

Most businesses here do not need Kubernetes. It is built for many teams deploying many services, and it brings a monthly bill and a skill requirement with it. Containers on a single managed server, with a staging copy and automatic releases, cover the majority of Kuwait businesses and cost far less to keep alive.

What happens if the site goes down at two in the morning?

That depends on what you agree, and it should be agreed in advance rather than assumed. We set up monitoring that checks the site from outside and raises an alert, we write down what the first response is, and we name who receives it. Out-of-hours cover is a separate arrangement in hours, not something silently included.

Can a DevOps engineer work alongside the developer we already use?

Yes, and it is often the cheapest combination. Your developer keeps building features while the DevOps hours go into hosting, releases, backups and monitoring, which is the part most freelance builders leave unfinished.
